How it all happened...

(This is mostly for my own sake as sometimes my blog serves as my journal, so you can skip to the pics, if you want.)

Yesterday (Fri.) I kept praying to go into labor since Caleb was able to come home a whole day early (he got home Thurs. night as his Dr. went out of town this weekend) and the whole thing would be perfect timing. Well, I had a HORRIBLE night's sleep Thurs. night (itching and heartburn) and got up at 6 am with a few contractions. They actually started to hurt more and more and I had them fairly consistently from 7:30am -8:30am and I was just about to go to the hospital when they completely and stopped suddenly. I was pretty bummed. So we decided to go walk around the Greenbelt which is roughly 2.4 (?) miles to see if we could get things going again. Plus it was the "Roaring Youth Jam" free event and we were going to take our kids to it anyway. Our kids had a blast and we were there for four hours (11:30-3:30). All this time I was having contractions but they were completely random--some 12 min. apart, some 8 min. then I'd go a half hour and not have any at all.

We went home and put our kids down for naps and I took a nap too and the contractions stopped completely. Rrrgh! Around 5:30 we had Caleb's two brothers, their families and my mom over for pizza and my contractions started up again, however this time they were starting to really hurt, but still were not consistent. I didn't have any dinner as I was really not hungry and I didn't want to throw up if I was in labor. I didn't want to go to the hospital just to be turned away!

At 8pm I thought I'd better just go in because of the pain but by the time we cleaned up the house, loaded up our kids and took them to my parent's house for the night, it ended up being about 9:30pm by the time we got to Mountain View Hospital. Finally my contractions were 2-5 min. apart!!!

The first time they checked me at 10 pm they determined I was at a 5--Hallelujah! At 10:30 I got an epidural (thank goodness for pain relief!) and then at 11:30 Dr. Leavitt (my Dr. was out of town) came in and checked me and I was at a 7--yeah! He also broke my water. One hour later, at 12:30am he came back and I was at a 10, fully effaced with the baby dropped and ready to push! He was so nice and let Caleb gown up and deliver her. I pushed for about 15 min. total and Capri was born at 12:51 am on Sat. I didn't tear at all--not even one stitch, yippee!! I dilated SO much faster this time around ( I never threw up!) and all in all, the whole experience was so much better than my last two (and Crew's was pretty good)! I guess "third time's the charm", right?

Capri is super cute with lots of dark hair and dark, dark eyes. We are in love with her. Everything couldn't have gone better. Since it was the middle of the night we didn't call anyone to tell them our good news until this morning. My dad is at girls' camp and of course Caleb's parents are on their mission, so my mom was the lone grandparent on the scene. (Thanks for taking them overnight, Mom!) Caysja and Crew are fascinated with Capri. Crew kept poking her nose and eyes and saying, "nose" "eye". Caysja couldn't wait to hold her. She's prayed for her to "come out" every night for months now.

I can smile now that I had an epidural!

Hello due date!

Well, due date, here we are! We made it! Still waiting for baby around here with not much happening...

I'm so ready to be done, but since I like to go "on my own" (and always have in the past) I keep thinking I can make it if I can just hang on a little longer. I'm still not THAT uncomfortable. I've had that awful itching a little bit this time (ICP) but it came at the very end (last two weeks, thank heavens) and hasn't been NEARLY as bad as with Crew. I'm sleeping okay for the most part (just getting up a million times to go to the bathroom) and even my awful "cankles" have gone down significantly, thanks to my sweet mom who rubbed them for me!!

I really thought things were happening last Sat., the night of our 6th Anniversary. After our date, I had contractions from 10pm-1am straight ranging from 5-10 min. apart with some of them starting to hurt. We went to bed and Caleb told me to wake him up when I wanted to go to the hospital. Well, I fell asleep around 2 am, and then next thing you know we both woke up and it was 8 am! Such a bummer. I've hardly had any contractions since then.

I've been going on long (2 mile) walks, bouncing on an exercise ball, etc. but nothing's working so far. (I can't bring myself to eat spicy food since I have bad heart burn without that and drinking caster oil just sounds too gross!) Any other ideas for me to try? This would be the perfect time since Caleb will be home for the weekend tomorrow.

My two sisters-in-law that were due the same week as me already had their babies nearly a week and a half ago--and on the same day! Too bad we didn't make it "three for three". It's hard to be the last one left. Well, I'm baby-sitting my niece and nephew all day today, maybe that will put me into labor, eh?

So am I ready...?

*My anniversary is over and done with so I won't have to worry about her being born on that day
*My hospital bag is all packed, complete with "presents" for my kids from "the baby"
*Her Clothes/blankets/burp clothes are all washed and put away
*The bassinet is set up along with the swing/bouncy seat, etc.
* pre-registered at the hospital
*picked out the baby announcements I want
*selected a pediatrician
*Reviewed some of my favorite baby books: Baby Wise, Happiest Baby on the Block, Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child
*Finished sewing the carseat cover I made her
*started a little journal for her
*scrapbooked my little boy's baby book so I can start on this baby's book (yes, I know, this should have been done a LONG time ago!)
* tried to spend some special "one-on-one with mom time" with my baby, who won't be a baby for too much longer, and my oldest, who is going to have to be an even BIGGER helper pretty soon

Meadow Lake

This past weekend we went camping (well, sort of-we didn't stay the night but everyone else did) with two of Caleb's brothers, his cousin and their families at Meadow Lake. I'd never been there before and it was really beautiful.

Here I am in all my pregnant glory, 38 weeks and counting! (I'm dilated to a 2 by the way, but no plans to be induced...yet. I would really rather NOT have this little one too early as this up coming weekend is my anniversary. I'm really not too uncomfortable either so I guess we'll just see what happens.)

This post looks like it's dedicated to Crew, but I promise I didn't do that on purpose! (Maybe my subconscious realizes that in about 10 more days he won't be my baby anymore!) I'm just trying to catch up on pictures here.

Crew is learning how to ride his little bike (well, he still can't pedal it, but he loves to be pushed in it). Caysja is learning to ride without training wheels but I can't get the video of that to load, so I'll have to try again sometime.

July 24th

We spent Pioneer Day with Caleb's two brothers and their families that live in IF. There was an awesome air show, "the Blue Angels", and we had a perfect view! These pictures really don't do it justice. All four air planes would fly in perfect formation! You'd have to have been there I guess.

It was pretty loud, so the girls played dress up inside while the adults watched the show.

Afterwards, Caleb and his brothers got into this HUGE water fight! It was like they were little boys again! I wish I had taken a picture of Caleb close up--he was totally soaked!

On Sunday we just played with Caleb. The weekends never last long enough and Monday always comes around too soon for all of us.

Baumgartner 2010

Caleb's family always does a Roberts family reunion the middle of July at Baumgartner Campground, near Boise, ID. It is a beautiful place with the Boise river running through it and a natural hot springs to swim in. I decided not to go this year, (being 8 1/2 months pregnant and sleeping on the ground didn't sound too appealing to me) but Caleb went for a few days and took Caysja with him. They had a blast, as you can tell from the pictures.

Our tent is in our storage unit in AZ, so this is how Caleb and Caysja slept--in the back of the truck! (I know the picture is dark, but Caysja's in there about to go to bed.)
